Naturally dyed textiles

In collaboration with nature…

Engaging closely with my local environment and nature spaces and exploring my local botanical resources became part of my creative and artistic practice in the recent years. Over the past 3 years I have been enquiring with my local natural environments, collecting and gathering natural resources and using them in my art making processes and as materials for my creative practices.

I extract colour and dyes from flowers, vegetable skins and other organic matter. I use these materials to create botanical inks and experimental dyes to use on different types of paper and textiles. I engage with these materials and resources through my senses and encourage my audiences to do so as well. Most of my creative work is tactile and is meant to encourage or support our sensory processing and experiencing.

I enjoy transferring naturally sourced colour onto textiles and other materials and this way creating artistic pieces in collaboration with nature. This reflects my intimate relationship with it and how I relate myself to my local natural habitats. Through these processes I am able to enquire about and explore the presence of something beyond our regular perception. The results of this artistic practice and my insights are reflected and represented by the textiles pieces which are created in this process.

Developing deeper and at this point very intimate personal relationship with nature has been a critical process in my recovery from chronic health issues and complications; understanding and accepting that I am neurodivergent and that the struggles I have experienced with my wellbeing and mental health throughout most of my life have been due to severe masking and autistic burnout.
